If you find this software useful, please make a small donation to the author (and convince his wife that the time spent on it is worthwhile.).If Count is set to repeat forever, you can press the Next button to move on.There is not much variety in names and places or control over the QSO content.
However, I hope it will already be useful and these things will be improved soon. When Frank (the ham admin, who was W2NVA at the time) started sending to us, I asked him Is that five words per minute and he answered, Yes, it is (hed done this many times and was a very good code op). Whichever method you use, stick with it, at least for six weeks or so, instead of trying right away to find an easier method. When you have learned all the numbers and letters, stop using the computer period and start listening to live QSOs on-air. Far too many people spend far too much time trying to learn CW with computer simulations these days. As a general rule, it takes the average ham far longer to learn Morse code over teh interwebs than it used to take us using phonographs (ask your grandparents) even though we now know using records was the wrong way to do it. ![]() I have found doing that helps you learn the prosigns, and numbers within callsigns. It is very dependent upon the persons desire and being diligent in moving forward. You must set aside time and be willing to keep working on it. Soon I will jump into the fray and send out a CQ and see what happens from there. All new users get the shakes and the excitement causes your fist to be shaky, but that is all part of the excitement of using CW on the air. Good luck learning CW, you may find that you want to just use CW to collect QSOs from all over the world. You can learn each. CW is a mode and you can get good at it, just like you can get good at SSB or FM or any other mode. Ive found over 40 years of teaching code that listening to it might help, but using it works better and faster. I would think that there are similar apps for Android devices as well. These apps do not teach sending, but I do believe that they are excellent at teaching a learner to recognize the rhythmic sound pattern of the letters and numbers. To me that puts them at the top of list of useful programs. Cw Contest Practice Software Full Of OtherLearn to receive, then use that skill on the air or in a room full of other learners with a concentration on sending code. Sending seems to be easier for new learners while receiving seems to be Mount Everest (until they have mastered some of the earlier characters these apps teach. Then they get excited, which motivates them to keep going--another good thing with these apps is that they provide positive feedback to the learner.) So I agree with your assessment that the apps do not teach everything. Trained my brain to not only decode what was sent, but do so with fading signals, static, noise and interference -- but because I (not just me, almost everyone did this) was doing something fun -- operating a shortwave receiver, making frequency and BFO adjustments, etc. I could do it for hours at a time without tiring of it. After a while, I couldnt wait to transmit and join those QSOs When I could finally copy complete sentences, and then even complete QSOs, I hooked up a key to an oscillator and practiced sending. Found the best way to do that and accelerate the learning process was doing it with a friend across the kitchen table. Id send to him, and hed listen and decode, then hed send to me, answering me, and Id listen and decode. Cw Contest Practice Software License Manual ForWe did that for a few weeks and didnt realize what speed we were going (never bothered to check in any way, but we were 12-13 year old kids), but studied the Novice license manual for the sample questions and answers and asked a local ham to administer the Novice test to us, which starts with a 5 wpm receiving and sending test.
